Dr. Julius Gilliard

I help boys and men build their understanding of healthy masculinity, so that they can go on to live more authentic and fulfilling lives, and become champions of society's shift towards what it means to be a real man.

Dr. Gilliard is passionate about personal growth in others. He brings that passion to his talks, through which he has been able to transform many lives in the past. He uses his knowledge to bring awareness to men about their hidden pain, and the ways in which it holds them back when they don’t face it and deal with it. He is able to connect with boys and men on a level that inspires them to dig deep and do the personal work that they need to do in order to show up as the leaders that society needs.

About

About Dr. Gilliard

Dr. Julius Gilliard was born in Castries on the beautiful island of St. Lucia in the sunny Caribbean. He was the second of his mother’s three boys. The other two were outgoing, whereas he was the socially awkward bookworm. He had a hard time fitting in both at home and at school, and so did what many boys do, he placed his emotions aside and played the game of fitting in. This helped him to navigate his teenage years without many negative consequences.

He describes it as no easy journey as he had to deal with the consequences of wearing the masks that he put on. The distractions, the disappointments, the slowing of his progress towards his goal. Dr. Gilliard is now a very well known, and highly sought-after psychiatrist throughout his home country. He is described as having an unusual ability to connect with people, making them feel at home in his presence, and making them feel like they really matter to him.

Through his psychiatry practice, Dr. Gilliard has met many boys and men who he sees as mirrors of his younger self. Boys and men who are sensitive, kind, gentle, thoughtful, and who have much to contribute if only they could show the world their real selves. He has started to work on helping these boys and men connect with their inner, true selves, which they are hiding because society has deceived them about how they need to show up as boys and men.

Dr Gilliard's Talk

When Will the Lies End

Not enough men today show up as their authentic selves. They hide behind masks from very early in their lives because of the lies that society has repeatedly told them about how a real man should look, sound, and behave. This talk exposes these lies. Starting with the reasons that most men believe them, and how society has built up those lies through history. The audience then finds out how profoundly these lies have affected the way that men interact with each other, and with women, and the negative societal implications of these lies.

Dr. Gilliard brings his experience as a mental health practitioner to the fight against these lies.

“Men really do need to look closer at the way they do things in this modern day, and I believe that Dr. Gilliard’s talk really drives that point home. He goes pretty deep into the suffering that men bring on to themselves by giving in to the false narratives that they are fed about how they should be. I believe that all men need to hear what Dr. Gilliard has to say”
Convention

I have had the distinct privilege of witnessing Dr. Gilliard present to an all-male audience, and it was a life changing, heartwarming experience for me. He was able to guide and present to them ways for introspection which inspired the men present to reflect on their roles as “real” men in the society. Dr. Gillard certainly has the qualities of a knowledgeable and transformational speaker and I have no hesitation in endorsing and recommending him for future events at my institution.
